The Implementation of the Minimal Intervention Dentistry in the Undergraduate Dental Clinical Teaching: A Retrospective Audit

Objectives: This study aims to assess the prevalence of minimal intervention dentistry (MID) treatment planned during undergraduate clinical teaching. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective audit, records from 108 dental students were collected categorized into three cohorts; 2009/2014, 2010/2015, 2011/2016. The number direct restorations [amalgam (AR) composite (CR)], fixed partial prostheses [conventional bridges (CB) resin-bonded-bridges (RBB)] single tooth indirect (crowns onlays) prescribed clinically by clinicians retrieved. Results: Among cohorts, a trend was observed in decrease AR increase CR students. highest (9.6%) performed Cohort 2009/2014 (97.7%) For prostheses, RBB (67.6%) main choice, as compared CB (32.4%). cohort 2011/2016 earlier cohorts. cases where teeth required cuspal protection, crowns (91.4%) dominated modality onlays (8.6%). Conclusion: showed undergraduates UiTM endorsed MID approach recommended contemporary restorative dentistry.
